INFORMATION

PLOT

Set years after The Real Ghostbusters, the series depicts a time when supernatural activity has dwindled, leaving the Ghostbusters out of business. Each member has gone their separate ways, except Dr. Egon Spengler, who remains at the firehouse to monitor the containment unit, care for Slimer, continue his research, and teach a paranormal class at a local college. As ghosts start to reappear, Egon recruits his four students as the new Ghostbusters: Kylie Griffin, a goth genius with expertise in the occult; Eduardo Rivera, a cynical Latino slacker; Garrett Miller, a young paraplegic athlete who uses a wheelchair; and Roland Jackson, a studious African-American machinery expert. Janine Melnitz, the original Ghostbusters' secretary, returns to the role, and Slimer, the hungry ghost, is also featured. The series follows this "Next Generation" of Ghostbusters as they track and capture ghosts throughout New York and beyond. Styled as a supernatural comedy with a darker, updated feel, it includes a gritty, rock/punk-inspired variation of Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" as its opening theme, composed by Jim Latham and performed by voice actor Jim Cummings. Recurring themes include the new team learning to work together despite their differences, Janine's unrequited affection for Egon, the unresolved love-hate relationship between Kylie and Eduardo, and the Ghostbusters' frequent confrontations with skeptical authority figures.
